Niagara Region's 50th Anniversary Party!
On November 11, 1962, a group of local Porsche enthusiasts obtained a regional charter from the Porsche Club of America…and the Niagara Region was born. Now 50 years later, we celebrate the amazing history of Porsches and people of the Niagara Region PCA. Come celebrate our 50th anniversary at what promises to be our region’s largest Porsche Party ever!
Our 50th Anniversary Party will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Glenora Wine Cellars on scenic Seneca Lake. From Noon-4:00pm you will enjoy a BBQ lunch, people’s choice concours, wine tasting, great door prizes, and live music overlooking spectacular vineyards and Seneca Lake. We anticipate your Porsche will be among the 200+ cars displayed on the beautiful winery grounds.
But that’s not all…there will be many other activities associated with our 50th Anniversary Party taking place all weekend.
If you arrive on Friday you can participate in any number of activities including a trip to the Corning Museum of Glass, a hike through the State Park gorge, dozens of local winery tours, and a Seneca Lake sightseeing tour on Captain Bill’s. Finish off the day with new and old friends at our Seneca Lodge happy hour, while enjoying a drink under the laurel wreaths of Watkins Glen Grand Prix winners.
After a hearty Saturday morning breakfast, take a guided walking tour of Glenora’s wine-making facility. Saturday at noon kicks off the largest Porsche Party our region has ever held! Take in the hundreds of Porsches, BBQ lunch, concours, thousands of dollars worth of door prizes, and wine tasting while rockin’ to the sounds of ‘Night Shift’.
After Saturday afternoon’s 50th Party, a Gala Dinner will top off the day in the Veraisons Restaurant at Glenora, where we will recognize club members who during the past 50 years have developed the Niagara Region into what it is today.
Complete the weekend with a catered Sunday breakfast at the International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, followed by a country road tour including a lap of the original 1948-1952 Grand Prix Street Course in your own car. The tour will end at Watkins Glen International Raceway where you can take 3 paced laps on the track, or participate in an autocross event in the paddock.
Niagara Region has named “Quick Vic” Vic Elford as Honorary Guest for the 50th Anniversary Party weekend! One of the fastest drivers of the 1960’s and 1970’s, Vic has won many prestigious races such as Classic Nurburgring, Targa Florio, Sebring, and Daytona. The only driver to race every version of the Porsche 917, Vic has also raced for Ford, Triumph, Lancia, Alfa-Romeo, Ferrari, Chaparral, Shadow, Cooper, Lola, Chevron, and Subaru. He also drove McLaren in F1 and CanAm, and Chevrolet in TransAm. Vic was hired by Steve McQueen to do the high speed close-up action driving the 917 for Steve’s film “Le Mans”. Don’t miss this opportunity to rub elbows with one of the world’s greatest sports car drivers!
